dc.description.abstract

Current assessments of hip abductor activity are limited to superficially accessible muscles. Hip pathology may be accompanied by changes in abductor activity, including deep gluteus minimus. The non-invasive assessment of hip abductor activity was evaluated using ultrasound imaging in comparison to surface and fine-wire electromyography. Measurements of abductor thickness were found irrelevant. M-mode measurements of abductor motion indicated a significant difference in the use of gluteus minimus in subjects with anterior hip pain.
