dc.description.abstract

The thesis addresses the question of countering Western stereotypes of Muslim women. The artefact is a study of women from a small, rural Arab Iranian town. It traces changes in women’s lives through the generations, depicting love and agency, context and capacity. The exegesis outlines the research methods; discusses prominent promoters of stereotypes including Ayaan Hirsi Ali; and explores the approach taken in the artefact.
