Abstract
Subduction of sediments has had little influence on bulk rock, mineralogical and redox compositions. Fluid infiltration is the most significant driver in mass transfer and mineralogical changes are localised to lithological contacts and shear zones. The sediments are likely to have little influence on the redox state of the sub-arc mantle. The lack of decarbonation suggests that CO2 could potentially be sequestered in the deep mantle on the timescale of millions to billions of years.
