dc.description.abstract

This research thesis examines the dynamics of particle movement from a granular bed in a curved fluid flow passage, for improved understanding of the erosion and sedimentation processes in river beds and slurry pipe flows. Changes to granular bed profiles are recorded and interpreted, identifying unique bed characteristics in relation to flow parameters. A computer simulation is developed for comparison with test results and to recognise of additional flow features of bed erosion and sedimentation.
