Abstract
This creative practice thesis The Aesthetics of a Malevolent Beachscape primarily responds to my life experience of beach and the dangers which are embedded in its image of scenic beauty. I portray the beach as a site that has a twofold function of pleasure and the other of terror, where beauty and death can exist in the same instance. I examine the beach through a frame work of lived experience, historical precedents and theoretical discussion.
