dc.description.abstract

This PhD thesis describes the design, development and testing of a novel Removable Expandable Screw to improve surgical management of hip fractures. The F-REX Screw demonstrated significant improvement in fixation strength in a clinically relevant testing construct as well as safe removal after medium-term animal in-vivo implantation. The work conducted in this thesis formed the basis of a spin-out company REX Ortho who continues to develop and commercialise the technology.
