    Abstract

This thesis examines risk and protective factors for Western Australian farmers' mental health using a longitudinal and mixed methods approach. It highlights the significance of family relationships, financial and external pressures, coping strategies, and community support. Additionally, it explores challenges in accessing mental health services in the vast WA region, contributing to literature on service utilisation among farming populations. The study emphasises the need for more longitudinal research on farmers' mental health across seasons.
