dc.description.abstract

My thesis explores underwater interactions with demersal gillnets and demersal longlines that operate in the Western Australia Temperate Demersal Gillnet and Demersal Longline Fishery. Interactions were observed through the use of underwater cameras attached to the fishing gear. The thesis also explores the comparison of species identification from deck camera monitoring with onboard observers to assess the reliability of remote identification of species being caught in the Western Australia Temperate Demersal Gillnet and Demersal Longline Fishery.
