dc.description.abstract

The lack of mine closure legislation and the need or otherwise for it, is the focus of this research, which investigates ‘If there is currently no specific, mine closure legislation in Australia, what then represents best closure practice?’ Its aim is to develop and explore a framework for mine closure that can be implemented by government, the mining industry and mining communities to provide best practice outcomes for mine void closures. It seeks to answer the following research question: ‘What is an appropriate legislative, analytical and stakeholder participation framework for the end-use of mining voids in Australia?’
