Effects of temperature and confining pressure on mixed-mode (I-II) and mode II fracture toughness of Kimachi sandstone
MetadataShow full item record
Highlights. •Fracture toughness of a sandstone was measured using semi-circular bend (SCB) specimen. •Mode I, mode II and mixed mode (I–II) fracture toughness was investigated. •Fracture toughness was found to be dependent on the temperature and the confining pressure. •Test results showed only limited agreement with maximum tangential stress fracture criterion.

Kuruppu, Mahinda; Funatsu, T. (2012)A number of standard methods have been proposed to determine the Mode I plane strain fracture toughness of rock. The semi-circular bend (SCB) specimen has been widely used for fracture toughness determination of geomaterials ...
Funatsu, T; Shimizu, N.; Kuruppu, Mahinda; Matsui, K. (2015)The fracture toughness of a rock often varies depending on the specimen shape and the loading type used to measure it. To investigate the mode I fracture toughness using semi-circular bend (SCB) specimens, we experimentally ...
Funatsu, T; Kuruppu, Mahinda (2014)In order to investigate the effect of specimen size on the mode I fracture toughness using Semi-Circular Bend (SCB) specimen, we experimentally studied the fracture toughness using SCB and Short Rod (SR) specimens, both ...
