Abstract
The thermal behavior of machine tools can profoundly affect the dimensional accuracy of manufactured parts; yet no publications have explored the relationship between dimensional accuracy of workpieces and the thermal status of machine tools. This paper investigates the thermal behavior of a three-axis CNC machine tool by machining several workpieces at different thermal conditions, analyzing the dimensional accuracy of the machined workpiece using a coordinate measuring machine (CMM) and directly showing the relationship between the dimensional accuracy of the workpiece and the machine tool’s thermal status.
