The Effect of the Thermal Behaviour of a Machine Tool on the Dimensional Accuracy of Parts
MetadataShow full item record
The thermal behavior of machine tools can profoundly affect the dimensional accuracy of manufactured parts; yet no publications have explored the relationship between dimensional accuracy of workpieces and the thermal status of machine tools. This paper investigates the thermal behavior of a three-axis CNC machine tool by machining several workpieces at different thermal conditions, analyzing the dimensional accuracy of the machined workpiece using a coordinate measuring machine (CMM) and directly showing the relationship between the dimensional accuracy of the workpiece and the machine tool’s thermal status.

An investigation into the effects of thermal errors of a machine tool on the dimensional accuracy of partsLu, Yuxia (2012)The reduction of machining errors has become increasingly important in modern manufacturing in order to obtain the required quality of parts. Geometric error makes up the basic part of the inaccuracy of the machine tool ...
Ting, Huey Tze (2013)Not until recently did we see an enormous surge of interest in the study of machining of advanced ceramics. This has resulted in significant advances lately in their development and usage. Machinable glass ceramics, ...
Lu, Yuxia; Islam, Mohammad Nazrul (2011)The thermally-induced volumetric error of a machine tool has been recognised as a major contributor to dimensional and geometric errors of component parts produced on it. Consequently, considerable research has focused ...
