The paper explores the development of the one person library in the Australian special library environment from 1954 - 1999. It contains a statistical analysis of the place of the one person library (OPL) in the Australian special libraries context and more particularly covers the period 1972 to 1999, the analysis having been gleaned from each edition of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) Directory of Special Libraries in Australia .
