dc.description.abstract

This study develops recommendations for sustainable urban storm water management in the Town of Victoria Park, Western Australia. Assessment of five selected infiltration sumps which are located in different types of land uses shows that the sump in the industrial land use yielded the highest sediment runoff, followed by commercial sumps and residential sumps. Comparison between the sump capacity and total sediment deposition shows that none of the infiltration sump reaches 20% of its designed capacity during the 2009 storm period. In addition, the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) was used to develop a relationship between modeled annual soil loss and observed sediment deposition which verifies the accuracy of this model. Based on the output of the research, some recommendations and guidelines were developed for the management of urban storm water and infiltration sump maintenance.
