Isolation and characterization of eight microsatellite loci in Chaetodon ornatissimus and cross-amplification in a sympatric sister species, Chaetodon meyeri
MetadataShow full item record
Eight polymorphic microsatellite loci were developed for sister species, Ornate butterflyfish (Chaetodon ornatissimus) and Scrawled butterflyfish (Chaetodon meyeri). All loci were scored from samples collected at geographically distinct locations (C. ornatissimus, N = 37, Republic of Palau; C. meyeri, N = 30, Republic of Kiribati). There were 14.00 or 13.50 mean alleles per locus (A) for C. ornatissimus and C. meyeri, respectively, with observed heterozygosity (H O) ranging from 0.61 to 0.97 and 0.60 to 1.00. Most loci conformed to Hardy-Weinberg expectations, were in linkage equilibrium, and lacked confounding null alleles. We expect these markers to be useful for resolving population structure and patterns of hybridization. © Springer Science+Business Media B.V. 2010.

Isolation and characterization of twenty microsatellite markers for the study of hybridization in butterflyfish of the genus ChaetodonMontanari, S.; Gardener, M.; Hobbs, Jean-Paul; Prachett, M.; Bay, L.; Van Herwerden, L. (2013)Twenty polymorphic microsatellite loci were developed via 454 sequencing for two hybridizing sister species of butterflyfish: the spot-band butterflyfish (Chaetodon punctatofasciatus) and peppered butterflyfish (Chaetodon ...
Phylogeography of two closely related Indo-Pacific butterflyfishes reveals divergent evolutionary histories and discordant results from mtDNA and microsatellitesDi Battista, Joseph; Rocha, L.; Craig, M.; Feldheim, K.; Bowen, B. (2012)Marine biogeographic barriers can have unpredictable consequences, even among closely related species. To resolve phylogeographic patterns for Indo-Pacific reef fauna, we conducted range-wide surveys of sister species, ...
Blinded by the bright: A lack of congruence between colour morphs, phylogeography and taxonomy for a cosmopolitan Indo-Pacific butterflyfish, Chaetodon aurigaDi Battista, Joseph; Waldrop, E.; Rocha, L.; Craig, M.; Berumen, M.; Bowen, B. (2015)Aim: We assess genetic differentiation among biogeographical provinces and colour morphs of the threadfin butterflyfish, Chaetodon auriga. This species is among the most broadly distributed butterflyfishes in the world, ...
