dc.description.abstract

In performance art, the body is the primary source of artistic expression. But the body is never merely biological, but is always augmented by its artifacts. It visually and conceptually grounds artistic expression in the act, in the actuality of physical presence, bodily vulnerability and affect. The artist was invited to the 3rd Venice International Performance Art Week as one of seven “Artists of Honor”, recognition that the artist is a pioneer of international performance art. A retrospective installation of selected photographs, postcards, diagrams and videos was co-curated by Leisa Shelton-Campbell, Fragment 31, and the conference organisers, Verena Stenke and Andrea Pagnes.
