dc.description.abstract

In December 2017, the wreck of Australia’s first submarine, HMAS AE1, was found off Papua New Guinea, 103 years after disappearing without trace. A second expedition, in April 2018, captured high-resolution images that shed light on the possible causes of the submarine’s loss and have also been used to create a detailed digital 3D reconstruction of the wreck site.
