Beyond White Gum Valley – Knutsford Community and Stakeholder Engagement Report

Abstract

This report documents the community engagement process for the Knutsford area as part of the CRC for Low Carbon Living, Beyond White Gum Valley (BWGV – RP 3043). Some of the elements of this project also overlapped with the activities of the RENeW Nexus (Smart Cities) projects.

The report focuses on an evolution in the consultation and engagement processes underway within the precinct. The initial focus of this process aimed to inform stakeholders of the opportunities associated redevelopment of the area and how low carbon technologies might be deployed in new developments in the precinct (for example within the East Village sub precinct). These conversations also sought to explore what initiatives stakeholders wanted to see happen within the precinct, such as greening projects. This approach did not significantly engage the community because the community saw low carbon technologies as a “given” that should be delivered in any urban development and these stakeholders were more interested in a much larger story, supported by the City of Fremantle, to create Knutsford as a world class example of sustainable and regenerative urbanism.
