Surface Potential of 1-Hexanol Solution: Comparison with Methyl Isobutyl Carbinol
MetadataShow full item record
Alcohols have an amphiphilic characteristic and are employed in industrial processes to enhance interfacial properties. In this study, the change in surface potential (ΔV) and surface tension of 1-hexanol were measured on the subsurface of electrolyte solutions (NaCl at 0.02, 0.2, and 2 M). The results were fitted by a newly proposed model, which includes the influence of electrolytes and surface concentration of surfactant at the air-water interface. The findings were compared to those of a previous study on methyl isobutyl carbinol (MIBC). Most significantly, the modeling results showed opposite behaviors between the two systems: adsorbed MIBC enhances the presence of cations, whereas adsorbed 1-hexanol enhances the presence of anions. The difference highlights thesignificance of the molecular structure on the arrangement at the air/ water interface.

McAtee, Brendon Kynnie (2003)Remote sensing of land surface temperature (LST) is a complex task. From a satellite-based perspective the radiative properties of the land surface and the atmosphere are inextricably linked. Knowledge of both is required ...
Relationship between surface concentration of l-leucine and bulk powder properties in spray dried formulationsMangal, S.; Meiser, F.; Tan, G.; Gengenbach, T.; Denman, J.; Rowles, Matthew; Larson, I.; Morton, D. (2015)The amino acid l-leucine has been demonstrated to act as a lubricant and improve the dispersibility of otherwise cohesive fine particles. It was hypothesized that optimum surface l-leucine concentration is necessary to ...
Novel Directional Blanket Covering Method for Surface Curvature Analysis at Different Scales and DirectionsPodsiadlo, Pawel; Wolski, Martin; Stachowiak, Gwidon (2017)The curvature of surface topography is quantified in this study using a newly developed directional blanket covering curvature (DBCC) method. The novel method addresses a long-standing problem of a measurement of a local ...
