A tract of amphibolite-facies granitic gneisses and metagabbros in northern Shetland, UK, is here named the Uyea Gneiss Complex. Zircon U–Pb dating indicates emplacement of the igneous protoliths of the complex c. 2746–2726 Ma, at a later time than most of the Archean protoliths of the Lewisian Gneiss Complex of mainland Scotland. Calc-alkaline geochemistry of the Uyea Gneiss Complex indicates arc-affinity and a strong genetic kinship among the mafic and felsic components. Zircon Hf compositions suggest an enriched mantle source and limited interaction with older crust during emplacement. Ductile fabrics developed soon after emplacement, with zircon rims at c. 2710 Ma, but there was little further deformation until Caledonian reworking east of the Uyea Shear Zone. There is no evidence for the Paleoproterozoic reworking that dominates large tracts of the Lewisian Gneiss Complex and of the Nagssugtoqidian Orogen of East Greenland. The more northerly location of the Uyea Gneiss Complex and extensive offshore basement of similar age implies that, prior to the opening of the North Atlantic Ocean, these rocks were contiguous with the Archean Rae Craton.

Episodic crustal growth in the southern segment of the Trans-North China Orogen across the Archean-Proterozoic boundaryHuang, X.; Wilde, Simon; Zhong, J. (2013)The Dengfeng and Taihua Complexes are well-exposed Neoarchean to Paleoproterozoic units in the southern segment of the Trans-North China Orogen (TNCO). Zircon U–Pb dating shows that the Dengfeng Complex records two episodes ...
Early Paleozoic metamorphic rocks of the Erguna block in the Great Xing'an Range, NE China: Evidence for the timing of magmatic and metamorphic events and their tectonic implicationsZhou, Jian-bo; Wilde, Simon; Zhang, X.; Ren, S.; Zheng, C. (2011)The Erguna block is a crustal unit located along the eastern margin of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB) in the far north of China. It contains a variety of khondalitic rocks that include sillimanite- and garnet-bearing ...
Detrital zircon and igneous protolith ages of high-grade metamorphic rocks in the Highland and Wanni Complexes, Sri Lanka: Their geochronological correlation with southern India and East AntarcticaKitano, I.; Osanai, Y.; Nakano, N.; Adachi, T.; Fitzsimons, Ian (2018)The high-grade metamorphic rocks of Sri Lanka place valuable constraints on the assembly of central parts of the Gondwana supercontinent. They are subdivided into the Wanni Complex (WC), Highland Complex (HC) and Vijayan ...
