dc.description.abstract

This publication addresses the above topics and presents Integrated Studios as opportunities to develop sustainable systemic architectural designs. It specifically focuses on the practical experience of Integrated Studio 1, developed at the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This case study serves as a concrete example of how these studios can meet the demands of constantly changing urban realities.

This publication emphasises the importance of systemically considering landscape as architecture and architecture as landscape, introducing complex social issues into architectural projects and conceiving them as social inclusion and transformation instruments. The proposed systemic architectural design approach is based on the conception of built-up and open spaces as a single system of spaces inserted in the urban landscape. This proposal aligns architecture, landscape and social inclusion linked to sustainability principles and design strategies guided by such principles.

It highlights the development of systemic architectural design through disciplinary interactions, collective dynamics, design development, and its conceptual and technical unfolding, allied to the importance of an integrated graphical approach to developing and representing the design process. The experience of the Integrated Studios, as presented in this publication, is a unique and significant contribution to the field of Architecture. It offers valuable insights into the teaching and learning processes, particularly for those interested in training professionals committed to designing more inclusive, sustainable, and resilient cities, in line with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 11.
