dc.description.abstract

Cities can play a leading role in the great transitions of our time. This Thesis examines the hallmarks of great future cities through data collected on 26 cities, identifying the role of rail mega projects. Through analysis of 35 global transit-oriented precincts it reveals the missing link of activated places as essential to advancing necessary urban transformation. Great cities of the future will be driven by transit-oriented urbanism, based on mega-rail projects and activated places.
