dc.description.abstract

This study, in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy of Faculty of Humanities, Curtin University, examines how Chinese online translation communities contribute to meaning-making and cultural change in the mediasphere of contemporary China. Adopting an interdisciplinary approach of case studies, this study captures the cultural dynamics driven by user-generated translation in news media, book publication, screen culture and analyses social implications this grassroots translation initiative can have in China.
